Outside broadcasts are key to Hereward skills provision

The very first broadcasts by Hereward Television took place at the Peterborough CAMRA Beer Festival 2015. Located on the Embankment by the Key Theatre, we were aiming our outputs to the people of the Peterborough conurbation and the Fenlands. Hereward Television wants to be your Local TV station, creating programmes from central Peterborough for people of the City, its conurbations, and the Fenlands.

Subject to the granting of licences by Ofcom, the broadcast regulator, the channel aims to initially be available via Virgin Media, with the forward plan of eventually coming to the Freeview service on Channel 7 - the traditional slot for such Local TV services across England.

As a registered charity and community interest initiative, the channel is made possible by involving a team of beneficiaries - part of the reason Hereward TV was at the 2015 Peterborough CAMRA Beer Festival. We are seeking other events to broadcast from, to find those people who want to be part of this huge project. Ever fancied learning new skills connected to broadcasting, and then put them into action? All of which will improve your CV and chances for work, and quite possibly new careers, not necessarily within broadcasting as the skills are transferable.

We are looking for researchers, writers, producers, directors, camera people, sound engineers and vision mixers, amongst many other roles. No experience necessary for any role, as full training will be given. It's not too late to be in at the begining of this project - simply email This email address is being protected from spambots. We are also looking for talented presenters, many of which will have the chance to audition from our future outside broadcasts. Again, it's not too late to get on to our radar - email us, including the answers to the following questions:

  • Tell us what sort of show you'd like to be part of on Hereward TV (what would it be about, what sort of things would you do);
  • Who you admire on television; and
  • A famous person (or two) who you would like to interview - and why.

34 cities in the UK have already been granted Local TV station licences. It's time to ensure that Peterborough doesn't miss out. Even if you don't fancy volunteering,

there are other ways you can support us. Find out more by having a look around this website.
